Intro Blog


Hello! My name is Melvin Amaya. I am 15 years old. This is my first year of Media Studies. I am excited to be in the media studies class this year. I went to Sunrise Middle School for all of my 6-8th grade. When I was in sunrise I did not take any sort of media class meaning this is my first experience. Also I am a sophomore this year. I am a very energetic person. I like this class because I enjoy filming and other types of media. I have a lot of ideas about filming ideas. I think I am creative with different types of medias and angles. I previously didn't know much about filming and different types of camera angles. I hope to learn about movies, shows, and so much more. I would love to be the one filming the videos for projects as it seems like something I’d be interested in. Another thing about me is that I’m determined. I would like to commit to all of my media projects and get them done. I didn’t see myself getting involved in filming at first but now that I’m in the course it seems enjoyable and I’d like to continue. I prefer working as a group for my projects but I am willing to do individual work if needed. I’d like to think I work well with others as I’m a great communicator and cooperative.

Short film research: Hysteric / Thriller-Mystery Genre

 This film in its entirety is about a family, as the two daughters are seen in bed they are risen to curiosity when they hear a mysterious noise come from their home. It all turns out to be their mother who was stricken with madness and these two daughters and left to fight on their own for their own safety and survival from their mother who is out for blood. The most common camera angle seen in this film was a medium angle camera shot which mostly only focuses on the upper half of one of the daughter’s body as we see the actions she takes to uncover the mystery of the sound. Tracking shots were also extremely common as we follow the same daughter getting up and walking towards the noise that was being made as she investigates, when she discovers her mother killing her father the tracking shot goes from the mother back to the daughter. Filming Blog

 My group finally began the filming process for our short film. For the location, my group all went to Naiara's apartment as we thought we would have a lot of space there. I arrived first and then waited for the rest of my groupmates to arrive. Since it was everyone's first time on location we had a bit of confusion with the directions but everyone eventually arrived. We had to push the time of filming back as there were also transportation troubles. When everyone arrived Naiara showed us around the location and we decided on the best place to begin filming. Also, Jeni was the one to bring the props so we can use them for our filming. She brought two dolls that we could pick from and decide which would be the best fit. For deciding the dolls we wanted the doll that was the creepiest and would fit thematically.
