Intro Blog


Hello! My name is Melvin Amaya. I am 15 years old. This is my first year of Media Studies. I am excited to be in the media studies class this year. I went to Sunrise Middle School for all of my 6-8th grade. When I was in sunrise I did not take any sort of media class meaning this is my first experience. Also I am a sophomore this year. I am a very energetic person. I like this class because I enjoy filming and other types of media. I have a lot of ideas about filming ideas. I think I am creative with different types of medias and angles. I previously didn't know much about filming and different types of camera angles. I hope to learn about movies, shows, and so much more. I would love to be the one filming the videos for projects as it seems like something I’d be interested in. Another thing about me is that I’m determined. I would like to commit to all of my media projects and get them done. I didn’t see myself getting involved in filming at first but now that I’m in the course it seems enjoyable and I’d like to continue. I prefer working as a group for my projects but I am willing to do individual work if needed. I’d like to think I work well with others as I’m a great communicator and cooperative.

Editing Blog

 For editing, other members of my group did it as they were experienced with editing. One thing that needed to be edited was the time. The time restraint was by far the biggest part of editing. We had to get the footage and make it fit 2 minutes. To achieve this, we unfortunately had to cut some scenes out. Because of the time restraint, we couldn't go over it. This meant we couldn't have too much footage. This also meant we had to have enough footage for the two-minute time. The problem me and my group faced was actually that we had too much filming. Because of this we had to use editing to cut down on some footage. I had some ideas on some extra scenes to add but we couldn’t add them because of the time limit. So what my group decided on was that we would just go with the normal plan. I agreed with this and we just had to scrap the idea that I proposed. Concluding Editing for Short Film

Today I will be discussing the editing methods used in the short film. Editing is often an underappreciated topic. The most well-known edit is a simple yet crucial one. This edit is known as cropping. Cropping is the trimming of clips and adjusting them accordingly to the project. This can include making scenes shorter that had extra fluff in them. Another important edit was stitching the scenes together. While this is another simple edit, it is required as the scenes need to flow together smoothly into one another. In addition to this, an important edit is the inclusion of music. Music can often set the tone/atmosphere really well. Music can also help spice the film up rather than dead silence with occasional dialogue. Some films may require silence for tone, but I find that boring most times. Roles For My Short Film

 Today I will go further into the production of my short film. The focus will be discussing roles in the film. As with every film, different roles are given to everyone for different purposes. The main and most common role is the actor. An actor's goal is to portray a message using emotions and words. For the short film, I will likely continue acting in it along with my group mates. Another role that often gets overlooked is the editor. For this film, Jeni will be editing the scenes once we finished filming. The app to edit will likely be iMovie as it has been used in past projects of ours and is free. Editing means stitching, adding music, cutting clips, etc, which helps in making the short film transition smoother and adds flavor to the scenes.
