Music Blog

The music in films is often one of the most important elements to include. Due to the film, my group is making we wanted to include a song that fits well with the theme. With the theme being Mystery, I want music that would make the listener curious and want more of the story. For the music choice, I chose a song by Kevin Macleod. The song was found on a playlist on Youtube. A major reason that this song was picked was that it was royalty-free. Since the music was publicly available on Youtube all I needed to do was download it. Not having to email companies for music made our film music a lot more convenient. One thing that I like about the music is the constant suspense it creates. I feel like the music has an unnatural sound to it which goes well with the unnatural theme of my film. One problem my group and I had was deciding where the music would fit in. I felt the music should be placed during the title card or something similar to that. I didn't want to have the music during dialogue as that could interrupt my group's line. Another thing improper music placement could do is distract the viewer from the visual aspect of our film. The music is meant to add to the visuals and grab the audience's attention. Another function of the music is to entertain them too. An audience would rather listen to music and watch a film than see a silent film. Even though the music may be subtle it still can be interesting to viewers. Because the genre for the film was Mystery I felt like I had several good options to choose from. Many songs would fit and could scare yet capture the audience. Because of this, the decision was extremely important.
