Short film research: The Camera

The Camera is a short film about a woman finding a mysterious camera. This camera takes pictures then includes a man who is not physically there. While all this is happening, there is no dialogue present and the only thing you can hear is soothing piano music. This music represents the calm tone of the film, while also complimenting the mystical and mysterious theme of the film. Instead of being the usual haunted suspenseful music we usually hear in many mystery films, we instead hear a beautiful score throughout the whole film. The lighting was all natural as most of the film occurred outside, with the inside of the house have windows in every room to continue using natural light. The costume is kept casual, as it is outside clothing. The prop of the camera is very old and big, most likely to symbolize caring for old items. The acting performed by the women is peculiar, as she is excited instead of scared to see the man inside of her pictures. She continues to pursue this man and does so in a way where she is not scared or worried in the slightest of what she will find. The editing in this film mostly involves cutting into different scenes, with jump cuts, over the shoulder shots, close ups, and many more. Many other films are in the mystery genre include The Batman, Watchmen, Zootopia, and many more. Having the overall film solve one mystery is an element that I would like to import into our project. Another element that we could add is cooperation. This would have two main characters trying to solve one crime together. An element I don't want to add is the dragged on story to ruin the overall plot. Another element would be a twist ending that adds shock factor, but can be unnecessary for the ending. We should implement some of these tactics in our film. The editing and sound is a very good reference for us to start. We will invest in using similar tactics from this film.
